API Terms

These terms apply to use of the C4C API with a key we issue, in addition to our Terms of Use.

Your key

Keep your key confidential. You are responsible for all use of it. Tell us right away if it may have been exposed, and we will revoke it and issue a new one.

Permitted use

You may use the API inside your own products and internal systems, including AI assistants your staff or customers use, to look up, quote and cite regulations.

Not permitted

You may not resell or redistribute the library’s text as a dataset or as a competing service, copy the library in bulk, use it to train or fine-tune AI models, share your key outside your organization, or try to get around usage limits.

Limits

Each key has a daily limit set by your plan. Calls over the limit are refused until the next day (UTC). We may also limit or pause service to protect it from abuse or overload.

Research, not legal advice

API results are research material, not legal advice. Every result includes a notice saying so. Confirm important requirements against the regulator’s own text.

Fees

Fees, if any, are set out in your order or invoice.

Suspension and termination

We may suspend or revoke a key if these terms are broken or fees go unpaid. You may stop using the API at any time.

Changes

We may change the API or these terms. We will give reasonable notice of changes that break existing uses.
